About Me

Experience

Shauna has been an Occupational Therapist in Ontario for over 10 years and has a true passion for supporting her clients throughout their therapeutic journey. She received her Honours Bachelor of Sciences in Life Sciences with a minor in Psychology from McMaster University in 2010, and her Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy in 2013 from Queen’s University.

She has worked with children, families and adults through one-on-one sessions and group programming in schools, hospitals, clinics, community agencies and private practice. In addition to her work with clients, Shauna has been a leader of innovation and supporting positive change in healthcare within the community as Manager of Programs as well as Director of Services at the Canadian Mental Health Association in York Region and South Simcoe. She has worked as a Research Coordinator with the Occupational Sciences & Occupational Therapy program at the University of Toronto as well as Sunnybrook Hospital, and has provided fieldwork placements for occupational therapy students from Queen’s University. Shauna is currently on the Board of Directors for the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists (OSOT).

In January 2024, Shauna founded Songbird Occupational Therapy, to use her skills, experience and passion to provide direct OT services to the community. Songbird represents two therapeutic areas that Shauna values both personally and professionally - music and nature - and believes they are both key to meaningful occupational engagement in the world.

Shauna has completed additional training in a variety of techniques and approaches including Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Adaptation Training (CAT), Sequential Order Sensory (SOS) Feeding Approach, Play Therapy, ASIST Suicide First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention. Shauna is excited to connect with new opportunities in direct service OT working with clients, as well as in research, mentorship, education and leadership.
